Cleaning a Kudu Using our Splitting Image Taxidermy Cleaning Kit

28 Jun 2018

Warrick shows us how to make use of your Splitting Image Taxidermy Cleaning Kit when cleaning a Kudu

Following on from the introduction of the Splitting Image Taxidermy Trophy Cleaning Kit & tips that will help your trophies last a lifetime, we’re going to go through a couple of species showing you how to maintain and keep them clean up on your wall.

With our Kudu, in most cases the horns are detachable. By removing the horn and taking a can of penetrating oil, WD40 or Q20, give the horn a light spray. This does darken the horn, but once it soaks in, it leaves the horn in a fantastic condition.

Once you’ve given it a light spray, taking the wire bristle brush, you’re just going to brush over the horn making sure that the oil is evenly spread. Once you’ve completed the whole horn, you can simply pop the horn back on and do the same on the other side.

If your trophies are too high to reach and you’re only able to clean them with the penetrating oil once or twice a year, make use of your microfibre duster that is included in the Splitting Image Taxidermy Cleaning Kit, and just give the horns a light clean to remove dust and debris that may be on them.

Once you’re done with the horns, use the horse brush that’s included in the Splitting Image Taxidermy Cleaning Kit to lightly brush down the face, ears and along the body. Make sure to brush in the direction that maintains the line of the hair.

We’ve also included the microfibre cloth, and this can be used for cleaning around the eyes, making sure they stay nice and bright.

If you have any further questions on how to maintain your trophies, please contact us. We would love to hear from you.

"Thank you again for all the hard work and it was very much a pleasure working with you and Splitting Image. WE will definitely use Splitting Image again on our next trip.  We will send you pictures once the trophies have been installed in our homes. "
