Heritage Day Special
Splitting Image Taxidermy believes that as Hunters it’s our heritage to hunt and spend time outdoors with family and friends.
In this video, Doug and Warrick are cooking up a storm for Heritage Day. On Heritage Day in South Africa, traditionally we get together around a fire and have a great braai and enjoy some laughs and talk about the past hunts that have gone by this past season.
What is Heritage Day?
Heritage Day is a South African public holiday celebrated on 24 September. The creation of a Heritage Day was based on an ideological vision, namely that South Africans would celebrate Heritage Day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. The political architects had envisaged that events would be staged throughout the country to commemorate this all-inclusive dream.
It was speculated that when South Africans celebrate the diverse cultural heritage they would become a rainbow nation. When this happens it would be time to celebrate the contribution of all South Africans to the building of South Africa. How far are we from achieving this dream if people merely celebrate their uniqueness instead of their common South African heritage?
Why do South Africa’s Celebrate Heritage Day
On this day, South Africans across the spectrum are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people and includes the whole nation. South Africans celebrate Heritage Day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this.
