SIT Stories - Episode 9 : Finishing
Finishing is a vital part of the taxidermy process – and it is the last, but not least from the artistic standpoint.
Our Finishing Manager, Thabo, showcases the process in detail in our latest video.
Once the mount has been through drying, our team puts the final touches on the piece, returning the natural beauty of each trophy as they were in the wild. It could be compared to putting “make up” on a beautiful face.
Our team of Finishers are highly trained and experienced in colour matching and working with African species. We are proud to have a strong female component in our finishing team – the ladies are excellent at adding the fine details that make our mounts exceptional.
The finishing process consists of the following steps:
• Cleaning and drying
• Brushing
• Putty work
• Preservation of horns
• Painting
• Backing
• Bases and habitat
• Final Checking
