22 Dec 2017

Splitting Image Taxidermy teaches you to DIY & tips that will help your trophies last a lifetime

An exciting new offer for you is our trophy cleaning kit. Inside you will find a horse brush, a microfiber duster, a nice microfiber cloth, a USB with helpful videos and images, as well as a Splitting Image Taxidermy brochure.

We recommend a routine cleaning several times a year. It is important to display your mounts in a proper, climate controlled environment. To prevent fading over time, try to avoid hanging your mounts opposite a sunny window where they will be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time. If possible, avoid displaying taxidermy pieces near direct sources of heat.

At Splitting Image Taxidermy, we believe in handling the mounts with care. The mounts should only be touched when absolutely necessary, like when cleaning. Make sure to display your mounts in an area where it won’t be touched or bumped.

To keep your mounts looking their best, they should be given a frequent, gentle dusting. A feather duster works well, followed by a damp cloth wiped in the direction of the hair to remove any remaining dust. Compressed air or a vacuum with a soft brush upholstery attachment also work well. Take care to work gently and follow the direction of the hair.

Prevention is always the best way to maintain the quality of your trophy. Any moth proofing spray that is safe for clothing can be used to mothproof all mounts and rugs. Spray over the mount and gently comb into the hair. On fur-bearing animals, the fur can be fluffed back using a hairdryer. If you notice any bug damage on the mount, take it outside and spray it with a bug killer and seal it in a plastic bag overnight.

Make sure to use the USB that is included in your Taxidermy Trophy Cleaning Kit, so that we can help you maintain your trophies for a lifetime.
