Value Added Tax and Taxidermy

22 Aug 2018

Doug goes into detail about Value Added Tax and how it could or could not affect your taxidermy

Part of what we do at Splitting Image Taxidermy , aside from beautiful taxidermy for clients from all over the world, is that we manage our client's expectations.

One of the points that have recently come to light is the query about VAT in South Africa (Value Added Tax).

Here’s the good news, as an international client, we do not charge VAT of 15% on any taxidermy completed for international clientele who export their trophies back home.

South African clientele who have taxidermy completed with us, unfortunately, we would have to charge you the standard 15% VAT.

The rule is as follows that if the trophy is leaving the country, it is a zero-rated product which means that for all the Americans, Canadians, Europeans, Australians, other countries all over the world, we don’t charge the 15% VAT.

Just out of interest, when you do go on your safari and your hunting operator is busy putting your account together, there is an interesting point to keep in mind. Your daily rate on your hunt will receive a 15% VAT charge. However, the trophies that you hunt do not get charged with a 15% VAT surcharge.

If you have any questions on the payments or the structures around Value Added Tax, please feel free to contact us. We would love to be of assistance.

At Splitting Image Taxidermy, we’re all about managing your expectations and making sure there are absolutely no grey areas for your next hunt.

We want you to go on your hunt and have the experience of a lifetime knowing what to expect and knowing that your taxidermy will be well taken care of and will be delivered to you in perfect condition.
